back Just starting? Well we have some tips for you. Character Creation Hints The following information is designed to help you generate optimal statistics for a given, character class. The following are generic Charcter Classes: Fighter: This class is for the "Conan," in you. The Fighter relies on sheer, brute strength to destroy his or her enemies. Spellcaster or Wizard: This class is for the "Merlin," in you. The Wizard or Spellcaster uses his Intelligence (INT) and Wisdom (WIS) to control earthly and mystical forces. BattleMage: This formidable class is for the "Conan" with an intellect. The BattleMage combines the Intelligence of a Wizard or Spellcaster with the Strength of a Fighter . Paladin: This stalwart class emulates the devoted and compassionate Warrior. The Paladin uses his Intelligence and Wisdom to heal and or protect others, while he or she uses his or her Strength, Endurance and Agility to overcome obstacles and defeat enemies. Rolling the Stats Fighter: Wizard or Spellcaster: A fighter requires high strength, endurance and agility. The Strength (STR) allows him to acquire and use better and harder hitting weapons, more rapidly, than any other class. The Endurance (END) allows him access to ever better armors and the Rapid Heal skill. The Agility (AGI) score allows the fighter to learn such skills as; Stun Blow, Parry, Powerful Blow, and Armor Penetration. A fighter should train the Attack skill and the Dodge skill equally (i.e., Attack = 30 and Dodge = 30). To ensure a good fighter dice roll, use the following answers to the questions you will be asked: Strength of Character Hands and eyes A hyena Hearty ale Radiant Valkyrie Battles of Sir knight Once having answered the questions, be patient and re-roll as often as necessary to get great starting statistics. Do not worry about areas Other than STR., END. and AGI., unless you intend to advance to a dual class such as "BattleMage" down the road in your life. The following would be excellent statistics for a Fighter: Strength : 22 Endurance: 20+ Agility: 19+ Wisdom: 12+ Intelligence: 12+ You are now ready to Enter the Game Wizards or Spellcasters will require high Intelligence (INT) and Wisdom (WIS). A Wizard/Spellcaster can use extra STAT points, he or she earns with each "Level Up" to increase his or her Endurance (END), only after he or she has gained all of the spells for the present level. The Spells are the real strength of the Wizard/Spellcaster. A Wizard/Spellcaster can always worry about his/her strength later on in life's development. High levels of wisdom and intelligence give the advantage of being able to acquire and use magical weapons and items, as well as Spells. This class should seek out those items that add strength and armor class, due to their low "Stat" point levels in these areas. To ensure the best scores for the Wizard/Spellcaster use the following answers to the questions you will be asked: The arcane tales of Archmage Wit A potion of rejuvenation A raven The mage The humble man Your freedom. Once you have entered these answers, continue to roll until you are satisfied with all of your statistics. Your primary emphasis in rolling is your Wisdom and Intelligence. Try to get as close to the following numbers as possible: Strength:13+ Endurance:15+ Agility: any Wisdom: 21+ Intelligence:21+ You are now ready to Enter the Game! BattleMage: Paladin: A BattleMage combines the strength, Endurance, and Agility of the Fighter with the Intellect and Wisdom of a Wizard/Spellcaster. A BattleMage will focus on STR., INT., and WIS. with equal emphasis, plus END. for armor. The prospective BattleMage will be able to acquire new armors at a slower rate than a straight Fighter, faster however, than a prospective Wizard/Spellcaster. It is easier to initiate this class of BattleMage as a Fighter and after attaining an advanced level, devote STAT points to INT and WIS in order to acquire Mage skills. A strange balancing act must be employed to use skill points wisely to learn spells and still learn, then train, to increase Attack, Dodge, Stun Blow and Powerful Blow skills. The following are the answers to the questions you'll receive if you wish to seek BattleMage early in your development: Strength of charcter hyena The mage Radient valkyrie Once you have entered these answers, continue to roll until you are satisfied with all of your statistics. Your primary emphasis in rolling is your Strength and Intelligence. Try to get as close to the following numbers as possible: Strength:21+ Endurance:18+ Agility:15+ Wisdom:12+ Intelligence:20+ You are now ready to Enter the Game! The Paladin is a "Holy" or "Benevolent" Fighter; adding the Wisdom of a Cleric to his emphasis on Strength and Endurance as a Fighter. This class should progress much quicker than that of a BattleMage. Being so close to a straight Fighter, the Paladin requires skills and spells only in the areas of healing and protection. The following are the answers you should give to the questions you receive: Strength of Character Radiant Valkyrie Wit Glass of water Once you have entered these answers, continue to roll until you are satisfied with all of your statistics. Your primary emphasis in rolling is your Strength and Wisdom. Try to get as close to the following numbers as possible: Strength:21 Endurance:20 Agility: 16 Wisdom:18 Intelligence:13 You are now ready to Enter the Game! Gold Find Darkfang the Dragon in LightHaven and ask him for some gold. He will give you 200gp. Errand for the LightHaven Samaritan Commonly called the Rat Quest, it is an ideal newbie starter. Speak with the LightHaven Samaritan and after the introduction bits, head for the dungeon under the temple and kill 15 rats. Return to the Samaritan and say Errand. He will reward you with some experience points. 2,500 or 3,000 have both been quoted as rewards. Tomb Raider Quest Speak with Darkfang the dragon in Lighthaven. The keyword to activate this one is Crypt or Tomb Raider. Talk to him till he tells you about the Tomb Raider wronging him. Then head for the crypt and dispose of the Tomb Raider. Return to Darkfang and say 'Tomb Raider' again he will reward you with 2,500 experience. Skull Dagger Quest With the Skull Dagger apparently flagged for deletion the outcome of this may change. The first thing to do is talk with Uranos in the LightHaven Mage Tower. The key words are What do you need, Ingredients, and Decaying Bat Wings. There is a possibility that you will be required to travel to WindHowl to actually visit Marsac Cred to obtain the information that the ingredient is decaying bat wings. However, it has been confirmed that Uranos may simply accept your words. The reward for providing the ingredients is the Skull Dagger and possibly 2,500 XP. Of note is that the Skull Dagger has reappeared in V1.03 without an asterisk '*' against its name and a new resale value of 455gp. Report Quest This is a multi-part quest and may be played in many ways, including a part for the Dark Path. Regardless, you must have gained level 5 status before starting First speak with Kirlor Dhul who is found in a building at the south end of the temple road in LightHaven. Use the keywords: WORK, MERCHANT, and REPORT. You will be given a letter from Kirlor. Next, attend to the weapons shop or amourer in LightHaven and using the keyword of REPORT, you will have the letter exchanged for a report. Do either of the two merchants in any order. The rewards are available for both and you can do the quest several times. Finally make your way to Lord Sunrock in Windhowl. Note that the quest is timed and an expired report earns you nothing. The keyword for Lord Sunrock is REPORT again and the reward is either 750 gold or 6000 XP depending on which merchant you selected. Repeat the quest with the other merchant for the other reward. The 6000 XP is only available once. All Around Arakas All through the island of Arakas are characters that provide for small quests and components of larger quests. Goblin Quest The quest can only be completed once the character has killed Balork and been cursed with his mark. It has been reported that to initiate this quest you must locate the Old Hermit and have him tell you to find Mirak Nira. I am not sure if this is the case as Vayle simply contacted Mirak directly, however that was in an early version and so it may have changed. Suggested keywords are 'Daughter' and 'Trust'. Contact Mirak Nira in Windhowl. She wanders on the grass area between Lord Sunrock's House and the temple. In talking with her use the keyword: OLD HERMIT She will refuse to understand, however if you repeat this a second and third time, like OLD HERMIT, OLD HERMIT then she will acknowledge that the hermit is her father. She will state that you must earn her TRUST and to do so she requires that you kill 100 goblins. Leave at this point and return occassionally to check if you have yet slain enough goblins. Note that it was Vayle's experience that goblin warriors and higher level goblins appeared to count as double or even triple bonus. Once you have killed 100 goblins, Mirak will provide a Ring of Trust which you must take to the Old Hermit. Go back to the old hermit who is found in the Brigands Cave (its easiest if you get a map) and using the keyword of TRUST he will exchange the ring for an Amulet of Ironwill (Now deleted, so we need to know what is given as of v1.04) and 4000 experience points. The Amulet of Ironwill has been replaced with an Amulet of Precision. (Thanks Drakos for this info.) While there you should be asking about Raven's Dust, or similar key words, and the hermit will refer you to Liurn Clar a mage in WindHowl. Liurn provides a method of transport to Raven's Dust. Vayle recommends that you set sanctuary to WindHowl temple and have the Word of Recall spell. Liurn charges a once off 10,000gp fee for the first ride but then provides transport for free. WindHowl Shield Quest As you enter the gates of WindHowl, in the building on your characters left (south west direction) you will find 'An Injured Guard'. Speak with him and using the keywords of PAIN and then TROLL you will initiate the quest. Essentially this can be done at any time and once started is not timed. You will need to ultimately take on Morgowolth the Troll who is in the far north west corner of Arakas beyond Jarko's caves. Probably its best to initiate this quest on your first or early visit to WindHowl. The last thing you want is to have been to the far north, killed the troll, and discover that because you didn't initiate it, you'll have to do it all again. Blue Potion You will need a Pink Leaf and an Apple. Go to the Druids camp and locate Dunikus Hornwind. Include the keyword WORK in your conversation and he will exchange the items for a Flask of Bluish Liquid. See the reference under items for more details. Book of Feylor Quest While in the Druids camp getting your Blue Potion find Lantalir Rainmist and ask about a BOOK. He will tell you that the Book of Feylor is in the Lost City and that this is found through the Labyrinth. You will need an Iron Key which is most often dropped by Brigands and Raiders on the roads near WindHowl. Once you have made your way into the Labyrinth and found the chest outside one of the ruined buildings, return the book to Lantalir Rainmist. You will receive a Sapphire Bracelet as a reward. Jarko's Spell Book Pretty simple really, talk with Lord Sunrock and mention Jarko as a keyword. He will advise that he wants the spellbook to destroy it. Go and kill Jarko the Necromancer in his 3rd level Dungeon in the mountains on the north west coast of Arakas. He will drop his spellbook and you return it to Lord Sunrock. Note that finding a spell book of Jarko's (he made lots of copies) is no good. You must actually be responsible for the fatal blow on Jarko, and not just participate. This quest is good too, because killing Jarko increases your Karma. Which is a requirement for the Champion of Light status. He also drops Warlock Rings. Stone of Life Quest Locate Yrian Earthsong in the Arakas Druids Camp. He will tell you about the Stone of Life. If the quest is not currently being done by someone else, he will say that the Stone has been stolen and will nominate the thief. Find the thief and talk to them. Vayle had to find the Renegade Orc Leader in Jarko's dungeon. He wanted a diamond in exchange for the Stone of Life, and so Vayle had to hike all the way back to WindHowl and rip one off from Lord Sunrock. So then swapping the Diamond for the Stone of Life is okay, and then return the Stone to Yrian. Note that this is a timed quest and if you are trying to start it and Yrian will not say that its stolen, its probably becuase someone else had started the quest and either gave up or has not finished it. Give it about 30 minutes (real time) and ask him again. Diamonds to Gold While you are in Lord Sunrock's house, check out the chest in the north-west corner office. You will probably find a diamond. Take it to Lord Sunrock and he will respond to the keyword of Diamond, and provide a 400gp reward. Somehow I think it is a Dark Path quest, effectively stealing a diamond and selling back to the owner. Yellow Powder Search for Araf Kul the Orc leader in the orc camp on Arakas. He may be difficult to find although Vayle previously (its been a while) found him south or south east of the lake area near the camp. Vayle also noted that he had a tendency to appear just when pots were running low, so be careful ! Hopefully he drops a Pouch of Yellow Powder for you. Take that to Lothan in the mage tower. The most recent rewards have been either Ring of Initiate, Gloves of Duelist, Gloves of Thieving, or 850gp. Apparently if you just 'find' the yellow powder and don’t kill Araf Kul yourself you will only get 850pg Things To Do in Raven's Dust Antelope Skins All over Raven's Dust are Antelope Skins which if collected in two's can be exchanged with Morindin Arrowmist for a pouch of Dandelion Leaves. Why ? because you can ! But seriously, the orc leader Rumblefoot would like some Dandelion Leaves (no doubt for his herbal tea !) and will provide a small reward. Champion of Light This is done by contacting Chamberlain Thomar and swearing fealty. It is only for followers of the Light and he will only accept those with an unspecified Karma level. Vayle does know that this level of Karma can be achieved by killing three Jarko's. However if you have been following the Dark Path, your karma will probably be negative and will take some effort to regain enough points. Death Jester Speak with Samuel in the castle and he will tell you that the Death Jester haunts the castle dungeon. He would like him stopped so that they can get some sleep at night. You will need a Death Jester skull as proof of the deed. Down in the dungeon find the Death Jester in the far end from the entrance. Kill him ! (Sounds easy huh!) and grab his skull. Take it back to Samuel for your reward. Helping Elysana Elysana wants some ingredients for her spells, so go and find a Pouch of Blue Cohosh, a Pouch of Witch Hazel, and some Woody Nightshade. She will swap these for a pair of Lizard Skin boots. Helping Menark Menark is one of the three mages in the north west room of King Theodore's castle. Asking Menark about his work will reveal that he will not leave the castle. He would like to get a skeletons bone and some mummys bandages to study. If you get these items and return them to Menark he will provide a reward of 7500 XP, some gold, and a Potion of Serious Healing. This quest can be repeated many times. Human Foot Yes, I know, sounds gory ! and NO you do not cut one off the next player character you see. Start by searching out Blaarg Toemangler the Orc torturer in the second level of the Orc cave on Raven's Dust island. Kill him and he may drop a human foot. Take the human foot to Ghundarg Rumblefoot the Orc Leader. Say 'human foot' and the 'yes' and you should get some Xp as a reward. Mind you having done that probably killing Ghundarg will add some extra XP to make the journey worthwhile. Kraanian Egg Another quest that Vayle is in the midst of. There are reports that this one is a bit broken, or at least was in V1.02. Since V1.03 is now here it may be fixed. The basics are to find a Kraanian Egg, which is dropped by the Kraanian's when you kill them on Arakas Island. Go and see Zhakar in the Temple of Sorcery and talk about Kraanian or Egg with him. He will 'research it' while you go away and gain 2 levels. When you come back ......something will happen !!! And this was fun...... Vayle managed to note...amongst the flurry of activity...that the creature that was born from the egg as a result of Zhakar's experiment was called a 'Zzartgax'. The instant that Vayle spoke to Zhakar the Zzartgax appeared and Zhakar yelled that we needed to defend ourselves. Vayle's HP immediately went red and a frantic search for pots and spells began. Fortunately a couple of Ice Bolt's together with Zhakars magic, reduced the Zzartgax to a pulp. Vayle appeared to gain between 5 and 10K XP from the kill, but is not certain. Discussing the critter and the experiment with Zhakar after the fight by asking Zhakar the keyword of Kraanian, he responded with "A success, as you have seen, the experiment was a success." and further "As I could not have done it without you I am rewarding you with 75,000 XP". Vayle gratefully said "Yay 75K" and watched a marked shift in the red XP bar. In addition he provided an Etheral Amulet as a bonus. This is a once only quest. Vayle has tried taking a second egg to Zhakar but he ignores it. Magical Interference I have seen Aloysius Starbolt mention the 'Magical Intereference from the North' only once and never since the last two patches. So as at 1.04 I am not sure if this is still accurate. However if this is mentioned then you should be looking for a creature of some special description in the vicinity of Grimish, the little goblin-type sub-boss that is just north of the Orc cave entry/exit near the Orc town on Raven's Dust. Apparently there's an Orc Mage who will say some words when he dies. Return to Aloysius Starbolt when done and a platinum ring is the likely reward. Mordrick's Quests First go and find Mordrick Warstone in the SilverSky castle. He is normally wandering in the main hall or the corridors to the east of the main hall. He has several quests that result in you being accepted as a member of his guard. The first keyword is 'work' and you wil be asked to go and kill 15 Demon Trees in a fixed time period. Its probably an idea to stock up on pots before starting and then head straight out the west side of SilverSky to hit on the Demon Trees. Return and you will get some XP (Vayle has forgotten how much as it was a while ago) and he will offer another quest. The next quest is to kill Ghundarg Rumblefoot the Orc Leader in the Raven's Dust Orc camp. Once Rumblefoot is dead you will find a scroll which is Rumblefoots plans. Now since you are visiting Ghundarg, also check out Orc Wristband and the Human Foot quests. You may 'kill' several things at once. Return the plans to Mordrick. He will ask that you get it translated by Morindin Arrowmist. Travel to Morindin and say 'translate', there is a fee of gold attached to this service. Once completed return to Mordrick and receive some more XP and a Tower Shield as a reward. Orc Wristband Okay so start by gathering 2 Antelope Skins and taking them to Morindin Arrowmist. He will swap these for a Pouch of Dandelion Leaves. While you are visiting Morindin, kill some spiders and collect two pairs of Tarantula Eyes. Don't take the eyes to Aloysius Starbolt this time, check out the Spider Eyes quest for those details. Go and visit Ghundarg Rumblefoot in the Orc camp and say 'ingredients' to him. He should exchange the ingredients for an Orcish Wristband. Now since you are visiting Ghundarg, also check out Mordrick's quests and the Human Foot. You may 'kill' several things at once. Save a Tree This one is from Celestina Waterbreeze and is in repond to a keyword of tree. She wants you to find two flasks of crystal water to save a small tree, assumed to be a baby forest guardian. Reward was given as a Pouch of Willow Bark and 7,500XP. Vayle did this a second time and got 8,000XP, so the reward may vary. Spider Eyes The mage Aloysius Starbolt provides a healthy 3000 gold for every pair of Tarantula Eyes that you bring him. The keywords are Tarantula Eyes and the Yes. Oh, and one pair at a time is a good move as it has been buggy. Vampire Bat Wings Ok, so you have collected some Vampire Bat Wings and you want to know why ! Well, its because your little green goblin-like friend called Grimish wants to have them for his supper. Collect 3 vampire bat wings, not decaying bat wings, and take them to Grimish, speak the keywords of goblin, then Count Haemogoblin, and Grimish will reward your efforts with 6000XP. Thanks to Alloy and Horace for the info on this one. Dark Path Stuff Since Vayle is following the Path of Light, there's only sketchy bits of info about the Dark Path. Things that are known from discussions with others, and from the few times that Vayle 'strayed'.... Black Market This quest is a variation on the Report Quest that is for Followers of the Light. First speak with Kirlor Dhul who is found in a building at the south end of the temple road in LightHaven. Now, instead of travelling to Lord Sunrock, you must detour to the caves about half-way between LightHaven and WindHowl. Find Thieves Town in the centre of the mountains and find Assar in the first building. Using the keyword REPORT he will advise you that you should deliver the report to Lord Sunrock immediately. Next, deliver the report to Lord Sunrock as normal. The keyword is still REPORT and there will be some gold awarded to you. At this stage you must wait for your character to gain two more levels before returning to Lord Sunrock. Return to see Lord Sunrock and commence talking with him. He will accuse you of treason, at which point you can say bye and leave. If you have grabbed a diamond from his chest do not give it to him now, it will spoil the sequence of events and possibly stop you from completing the quest. You'll have to go back to see Assar again now. Start talking to him, and when he asks if "you want to back out" say No and he will advise you contact The Lurker in WindHowl. Finally locate The Lurker in Windhowl and use the keywords of MARKET OF SHADOWS or BLACK MARKET. He will name the weapons dealer Ttayh Mark as the contact for the Black Market. You will now have access to the Black Market. To see what's for sale you must see the weapons guy during the night and say BLACK MARKET. Items seem to change with every level up. Jarko's Spell Book Pretty simple really, talk with Araknor in LightHaven and mention Jarko as a keyword. He will advise that he wants the spellbook to use it. Go and kill Jarko the Necromancer in his 3rd level Dungeon in the mountains on the north west coast of Arakas. He will drop his spellbook and you return it to Araknor. Note that finding a spell book of Jarko's (he made lots of copies) is no good. You must actually be responsible for the fatal blow on Jarko, and not just participate. This quest will allow you to become apprenticed to Araknor in the skills of necromancy. Note that this is very much a negative karma thing and will potentially create problems with completing other quests. Baldric's Drum The bartender, Thorbin Wildheart, in the Troll's Armpit is the one to contact regarding Baldric's Drum. You will find that he wants the drum to stop Baldric from playing the awful 'music'. From Baldric Silverknife the first 'qualifying' assignment is to kill 10 of Rondy's pigs in the yard near the north east wall of town, just south of the temple. Once these are killed you will be unable to talk to Rondy, without him cursing you. So if you want to ask Rondy about anything do so before you undertake this assignment. Follow this up with a second assignment from Baldric, which is to get information from Doremas. Doremas is a middle man and having spoken with him you will know that you need to find Grimish. Grimish is a goblin like sub-boss in green you will chat about lots of stuff. He lives in or near a small house to the north-east of the Orc town entry-exit to the Orc caves in Raven's Dust. Mention Doremas to Grimish and then return to Doremas. Speak with Doremas and again mention Grimish by name. You will again get a rude response which says nothing. Ignore that and head back to Grimish for a second time. When speaking with Grimish for the second time same the keyword of game. He will ask a riddle to which the answer is 'nothing'. Return to Doremas for a third, and final time, and say Grimish. Doremas will give a pass-phrase of 'Alliance is Renewed'. Go to Baldric and repeat this pass-phrase and you will receive 70,000 XP and hopefully his drum. Take the drum to the barkeeper in the Trolls Armpit, Thorbin Wildheart. He should give a reward. Grimish will also like it if you take him 3 sets of vampire bat wings. Not quite sure what he does with them, but.... refer to the Vampire Bat Wing quest. Odd's 'n Sods Haden is the thief looking guy on the far south west coast of Raven's Dust. Apparently a key word for him is Amandra but he did not respond to Vayle's quizzing at all, which is probably because Vayle is following the Path of Light. Poison the Bishop To poison the Bishop: Speak with Kalastor to get advice, then get an apple from Shadeen. It appears that you need to wait for someone to give him the cuthana herb, then while he is in remission' he will be able to communicate and you will be able to give him the apple. The apple is actually provided by Elysana Blackrose in exchange for 10 lots of Wasp Wax. Use the keyword of Wax. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Royal Key Quests Character info is based around the keyword responses to 'Royal Key'. Some of the info is from the discussion groups and may have some inaccuracies. I am refining this stuff on a daily basis so check back as often as you like. The overview is pretty simple, get 6 keys, visit 12 brothers, hand over the keys, get the herb, cure the bishop, and remove Balorks mark. The detail is a damn sight more complex and takes some doing, so here is what I can find out todate. The ultimate purpose of the Royal Keys Quests is, apparently, the reward of Cuthana Herb which you can use to cure Bishop Rikken Crowbanner. Princess Delilah offers you three options when you take it to her either a) heal b) curse remove c) money. I think it's fairly obvious that 'money' is not the best option. 'Removing Balorks Curse' is proably not the thing a Champion of Light would do either.......but there are differing opinions depending on where you look. Vayle was advised that Royal Keys come from Reynen AspicDart, Zhakar, Bane Blackblood, Mordrik Warstone, Chamberlin Thomar, and Morindin Arrowmist. While the keys are actually identified within the game as Royal Key #X, I'll refer to them by the name of the lead character here. Vayle has seen a number of 'solutions' to this quest so far, but as he has yet to complete the quest, he is not certain of the sequence. It is possible that the 12 Royal Brothers have to be visited before Key #1 can be obtained. However, the keys may be gained in any order. Vayle so far has only finished one of the key quests, (Zhakar's) and is half-way through the rest. Once you have the six keys, visit or return to the 12th Brother and say 'I have the six keys'. You will then be transported to Theopolds Spectre to answer some riddles. You should then get some Cuthana and be able to cure the Bishop. See the section about Cuthana. Reynen's Key #1 Talk to the drunk, Geram, at the bar in the Troll's Armpit, give him a gold piece then say "Reynen". He'll tell you how Reynen is responsible for his current situation. Talk to Celydia at the castle, first talk about "Royal key" then about Reynen. Now this bit is not clear, Vayle has tried talking to Adriana and Belagen in either order and cannot get the expected response. However this is the way its been reported. Get a book of warfare, go talk to Adriana, say "Reynen". She'll tell you to talk to someone else. Talk to Belagen her assistant about "Reynen" if you've followed the order so far he should ask for the book of warfare, which you should already have. Go talk to Reynen about "Royal key" and he should hand over the Reynen's key, this can be used on Reynen's chest which drops, RK#1, feathers, dark keys, and pots. Try clicking on the chest and if its locked go back to Reynen and say 'chest' then 'locked' and then you should get the key to the chest and subsequently the royal key in the chest. Chamberlain Thomar's Key #2 Once you are a Champion of Light you should be able to get a response from Chamberlain Thomar to 'Royal Key'. Next see Terwin and he will ask for a Potion of Heroism. Vayle had one dropped by an Orc near the Orc cave in Raven's Dust, but the silly bugger drank it !!! Yet to get another one to confirm this, but you are meant to be able to take the pot to Terwin and then return to Thomar and he will hand over the key. Zhakar's Key #3 This one really kicks off with Elysana Blackrose. She will respond to 'Royal Key' with a request to provide her with a flask of Ether and then she will discuss this topic. Once you have provided her with the flask she will advise that, she was surprised that you found the Ether, and since she didn't think you would, she has sold it to Zhakar. In order to get the key she suggests that you see Zhakar and ask him for it. She also compensated Vayle with 5000 XP which was a bonus! If you speak with Zhakar before speaking with Elysana, he responds that "Yes, I have one, and it's all mine and I am keeping it!". Once you have completed the Ether quest with Elysana you must travel to Zhakar. In order to be asked the riddle, you need to repeat Elysana Blackrose's name 3 times. He coughs, splutters, and rants, but eventually, Zhakar will ask the riddle of "What 3 keys will not open locks?". The answer as mentioned elsewhere is 'Monkey, Donkey, and Turkey'.. but you must use the format of "answer monkey donkey turkey"... and this answers his riddle. The reward is the Royal Key and some XP. Vayle's memory faded for some reason at this point, and he has forgotten how much XP. Bane Blackblood's Key #4 Start by asking Thea, the barmaid in The Troll's Armpit, about a royal key. Ask about it at night, as during the day she is too bust to speak. She'll talk about a priestess who came to RD to deliver one to someone, then left the island. Follow this up with talking to Moonrock. She will want you to have a certain minimum level of karma before she will discuss. After this you should be able to approach Bane Blackblood, but Vayle has yet to get this far. Morindin's Key #5 Start by contacting the cook, Jon Hamhoo, in the South East corner of the SilverSky Castle. He will run you through a tale of a Royal Key, and nominate Kamar and Jalir as having the key. Of course, Jon's memory is a bit muddled from all the cooking sherry he's been sipping and in fact it is Jamar and Kalir that you need to talk to. Go and find Jamar, who wanders near the west end of the cross-shaped area with the fountain in SilverSky. He will express a desire to have a letter from Kalir. Go and find Kalir, in the oasis in the desert, and mention 'letter' to him. He will give you a letter for Jamar. Return to Jamar, who will then want you to return with another letter. Now, with Kalir in the desert for the second time, he will admit to not being honest with you, as he wanted to be sure the letter was delivered. He will then advise that Morindin has the key in safe keeping. Morindin Arrowmist responds to Vayle "Increase your worth and power, and until then I will not discuss a royal key with you" Hmm... more money ? and what, INT or WIS or simply levels ? No its Karma. Speaking with Darkfang the dragon explains that Karma means Worth. Vayle has yet to gain enough karma to be able to speak again with Morindin. Mordrick's Key #6 Starting with Tobias, and asking about a Royal Key, will lead you to Celestina Waterbreeze. In response to Royal Key she will advise (assuming that other steps have been satisfied) that she gave the key to Mordrick Warstone for safe keeping. Be aware that before she provides this information she asks for a truthful answer to the question 'Have you ever killed a Forest Guardian?' Now, as for myself I had never even attacked one, so Vayle received his response without incident. However, is the act of attacking considered by Celestina to be 'killing' or, in order to answer *truthfully* must you respond in the positive only if you have actually killed a Forest Guardian ? There is also the issue of karma here. It has been mentioned that completing the Save A Tree quest will get Celestina to discuss the Royal Key if the character is not getting the appropriate response. The question here is, is her response based in karma, or based in 'friendship' to the Forest Guardians ? In any case, you may need to work at getting the info from Celestina. Mordrick Warstone who is referred to from Celestina Waterbreeze advises to become a Champion of Light before he will go further. Having finally increased Vayle's Karma by killing Jarko another 3 times, Mordrick has now asked for Vayle to go to the Cave of Illusions (which we think is the one under the Desert) and find his Sword of Might. Vayle tried doing that but has died 3 more times recently and is currently laying low in order to add a few more levels to his skills. 12 Royal Dead Brothers Apparently the first step is to talk to the 12 undead brothers first. This is the order of the 12 Royal Dead Brothers: 1. A decrepit figure 2. A stumbling corpse 3. A moaning shadow 4. A frail creature 5. A rotting monstrosity 6. A pitiful being 7. A wailing entity 8. A miserable soul 9. A foul abomination 10. A putrid beast 11. A creeping fiend 12. A loathesome horror What to say to NPC's: after speaking with the first go to the second one and so one. 2.torment 3. tournament of princes 4. king of goldmoon 5. theodore 6. deaths 7. poisoned 8. cursed 9. cuthana 10. heal 11. royal doors 12. lower dungeon Theopold's Spectre Riddles #1 Answer is 'The Letter A' #2 Answer is 'The Letter M' #3 Answer is 'I am stuck here and need some help' #4 One where none or two should be, seeking out purity in the king's tree, what am i ? Answer is a 'Unicorn' #5 Answer is 'Nothing' Balork's Mark This one is separated from the rest as although it starts in Light Haven at a low level it is a lengthy process that consists of a number of linked tasks. Vayle has yet to complete it, but the story so far, is........ Balork This guy is the demon in the basement dungeon of the temple in LightHaven. Killing him, probably, is a task for a level 8 - 10 character, although I know that many characters at lower levels, with assistance have gained this status. The main thing here is that Balork's last words are to curse the character that has slain him, and he places a mark upon your soul. The Old Hermit If you mention the word 'Mark' to the Old Hermit when discussing other quests and stuff, he will advise that you go to Raven's Dust and see Princess Delilah. Not certain if this is a required step or just co-incidence....but he does this as part of the right to gain access to Raven's Dust via the portal. Cuthana Contacting Princess Delilah will lead to requiring that you obtain some Cuthana. A herb which is acquired via the Royal Keys quest. This is required to cure the Bishop Crowbanner of his illness. Delilah will ask that you speak with Chamberlain Thomar who will issue the Cuthana Quest. It appears that once the Cuthana is administered, that Delilah will cure or remove Balork's Mark. Other Stuff These are the loose bits and pieces that I have picked up around the newsgroups and as yet have not actually done myself to be able to fit them into the picture. This is a heap of disjointed bits at the moment but hopefully it will be helpful. Hmmm... seem to have fitted them all in..... will keep this spot here for future bits of info. back
